“ShamkirChess2015” super tournament in memory of late chess-player Vugar Gashimov is over. The winner of the tournament, organized with support of Synergy Group, is Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen. The current world champion left his colleagues behind by obtaining 7 scores at 9 rounds. Carlsen won 5 and made draws at 4 parties. The world champion demonstrating high skills was one of the two chess-players who did not face a defeat in Shamkir. Magnus Carlsen wrote his name in the history of the Memorial of Vugar Gashimov as a double winner.
The second place of the tournament was taken by former world champion Viswanathan Anand. The Indian chess-player gained 6 scores as a result of 3 victories and 6 draws without losing during 9 rounds. Anand stayed back from Magnus Carlsen by a score and deserved the second place. US representative Wesly So and Italian chess-player Fabiano Caruana shared correspondingly the third and fourth places. Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik and Azerbaijani chess-player Shahriyar Mammadyarov dropped down correspondingly to the fifth and sixth places. Anish Giri (the Netherlands), Rauf Mammadov (Azerbaijan), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) and Michael Adams (England), who scored less, shared 7 to 10th places.
Winner of the competition Norwegian Magnus Carlsen was rewarded a cup at the award ceremony. According to the regulations, the world champion was rewarded 30 thousand Euros, as well. Owner of the second place Viswanathan Anand got 20, while Wesly So, who was ranked in the top three, received 15 thousand Euros.
The award fund of the Memorial of Vugar Gashimov organized with support of Synergy Group sequentially for the second time makes 100 thousand Euros in total.
